Selfless people get more sex!
Turns out nice guys don’t finish last, they finish more often. They say everyone loves a bad boy, which may be true, but it’s the good guys getting more pussy according to an article posted in the British Journal of Psychology.
The new study from the University of Guelph and Nipissing University , shows that people who help others are more desirable to the opposite sex.
The researchers interviewed 800 people about their relationships as well as their propensity for helping others. This includes doing favours for strangers, giving to charity, donating blood and the like. When their findings were adjusted for age and personality, it turned out the humanitarians were the ones getting the most action.
“It appears that altruism evolved in our species, in part, because it serves as a signal of other underlying desirable qualities. Which helps individuals reproduce,” said author Steven Arnocky. His co-author, Pat Barclay, added that “it’s a more effective signal for men than for women.”
The researchers also noted that magnanimous actions may also affect the length of a relationship and the quality of one’s partners. So hot girls like nice guys!
Here’s the thing about those results, though — the researchers were relying on the participants for an accurate account of their sexual history and their good deeds. Which means there may be some over-reporting going on!
So, open the door for the woman behind you. Help the elderly lady across the street. Volunteer to help the homeless. Basically, be a good person. the worst that can happen is you get laid more.
